A Marion County deputy is being recognized for going above and beyond for someone in need.
Deputy Matt Higgins was called for a welfare check on an elderly Salem resident, but when he got to the house he found that the person didn’t have any food.
The person also mentioned to Dep. Higgins that they couldn't remember when they last ate.
The deputy called a sergeant, and together they took the person grocery shopping.
When they got back to the house, Higgins and the sergeant put the food away and then started cooking.
Marion County officials said senior services has been contacted, and they will ensure that someone checks in with the person to make sure their needs are met.
